hi! i’m gwen :)

I’m an primarily theatre-based actor located in nipaluna/Hobart, though I also have experience writing and voice acting. I’ve worked mostly in site-specific theatre and am stranger to neither comedy nor drama.

After feeling burnt out after years of studying STEM subjects, I decided to completely shift gears, jumping headfirst into arts and humanities, and I’ve never looked back.

I’m currently studying for a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Tasmania, majoring in Ancient Languages and Theatre & Performance.

I’ve been creating stories for as long as I can remember, and I’m dedicated to creating memorable experiences for my audience shaped by my unique voice.

I’m always eager to learn and participate in creating stories, and I’d love to be part of your next project.

I acknowledge and pay respect to the palawa and pakana peoples of lutruwita, in particular the mouhenneener people of the south east nation. It is on their land that I live, work, and share stories.
I pay my respects to elders past, present, and emerging.
I am deeply honoured to be part of the long tradition of storytelling that has taken place on these lands.

Voice Acting

I’ve been working with a speech pathologist since 2021, and I’ve developed my ability to move between masculine and feminine ranges in my voice, giving me a wider pool of voices to draw from.

I’m always cooking up new and interesting voices, and working to develop new techniques (such as from Tuvan throat-singing) to bring characters to life.

Here are a selection of recordings that demonstrate my range as a vocal performer, including some impressions of popular characters. None of them have been changed or altered in any way.

Credentials

Studying at the University of Tasmania

Currently undertaking a Bachelor of Arts, with a double major in Ancient Languages + Theatre & Performance. Studied three years of Latin, a year of performance skills, and units teaching skills in dramatic interactions, theatrical technology, performing text, global media and cyber-theatres, and was involved in the production of experimental and directed theatrical productions. Also enrolled for creative writing classes for 2025.

Social Work

Worked with Justin Canty for a social work integration workshop for the benefit of the UTAS social work students, allowing them to practice their communication skills in a simulated experience.

Consent Workshop

Took part in a actor’s consent workshop by Melanie Beddie, learning about the importance of interpersonal consent in theatre and drama, and how to communicate needs and wants with other actors.

Practiced Communicator and Improviser

I began playing the tabletop role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons in 2019 and fell in love with the collaborative storytelling process. I’ve been playing with more-or-less the same group for the past six years with me as the game-master, and they’ve taught me so much about leadership, collaboration, creativity, and improvisation.

Writing

Writing has been my primary method of creative expression for many years now, and I’ve become acquainted with many different styles of writing.

I care deeply about narrative themes and meanings, and I’ve even assisted certain directors on the direction of script rewrites.

Testimonials

Gwen was a pleasure to work with and direct as a voice actor on my audio drama. Throughout the process I found her to be both flexible and reliable, easy to contact and ready to take feedback and constructive criticism onboard. Gwen has a positive attitude and willingness to give it her all, she is a fun presence but knows how to remain professional.

Phoebe Ody, Audio Director

I deeply appreciated [Gwen’s] thoughtful integration of personal experiences to inform and add important contextual and emotional detail to specific scenarios. [Her] strong skills in improvisation and character development in a non-scripted setting created significant learning opportunities for our students, augmented through [her] ‘in the moment’ feedback based in the experience of the simulated encounter. [She] demonstrated a strong capacity to sustain a character while working effectively within the workshop as a supportive learning environment.

We received consistent highly positive and appreciative feedback from the social work student participants on how much of a useful challenge it provided to be working with a simulated encounter with an actor and situation that they did not know.

[Gwen’s] volunteer work contributed to an outstanding process for the students to continue learning and refining their professional interpersonal skills as they prepare for graduation and moving into professional practice as new graduates.
